The Cardiff crowd singing Edge’s theme music was a 2022 highlight

Clash at the Castle was one of the most anticipated WWE pay per views in years, given the UK had last hosted such an event in 1992.

The show was also Triple H’s first with a full storyline build (he had assumed the position of Head of Creative less than two weeks before Summerslam), and as such the excitement was palpable amongst fans in attendance at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium.

This excitement and passion was nowhere more evident than during Edge’s entrance, where the crowd sang along to his iconic theme song in one of the wrestling moments of 2022.

A brilliant theme song for a brilliant show

Edge’s theme was always one of the absolute best, from the “you think you know me” taken from his previous music to Metalingus’ Alter Bridge lyrics, which to quote Sheamus is simply a “banger.”

Of course, Edge had also not been seen in the UK in over a decade after retiring in 2011 and then returning right before the outset of the pandemic in 2020. This combination led to magic from the 60,000+ inside the Welsh national stadium.

The entrance and everything about it is what makes wrestling fun

Everything about it what draws people to wrestling. The pageantry and big time feel to it, with Edge entering a massive stadium kitted out in a luchador mask in support of his tag partner, Rey Mysterio, and running around like a man half his age.

The crowd are absolutely here for a party and lap it all up, providing backing vocals to Metalingus and generally just having a good time.

The moment was genuinely special, which was echoed in comments left on the thread from both fans in attendance and those who have since watched back. The work of announcer Samantha Irvin was also rightly commended.

The match itself saw Edge and Rey defeat Finn Balor and Damian Priest, only to the be betrayed by Dominik, who has since sided with The Judgement Day against his father.

What’s next for Edge?

The Rated-R Superstar has not been seen since Extreme Rules, where he lost an “I Quit” match to Finn Balor. He was destroyed afterwards by the group he once ruled over.

It is likely that he returns on the road to WrestleMania, in what looks like the beginning of a true retirement tour for one of the best to ever do it.
