A Private Service Will Be Held
Robert “Bob” Francis Wilson, Jr., age 84 of Newport News, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2022. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Elizabeth Wilson; his father, Robert Francis Wilson, Sr. and a brother, Jerry Wayne Wilson. Bob was born in the town of Salisbury, NC. He graduated from Old Fort High School in 1955. Bob enlisted and served in the U.S. Marine Corp from 1956 through 1958. He then transitioned into the U.S. Air Force and served his country for another 24 years. Following his military career, he assisted his brother, James “Eddie” Wilson in the development of Virginia Machine and Supply Company for 14 years. He was a lifetime member and past chairman of the American Society of Manufacturing Engineers and a lifetime member and past commander of the American Legion Post 48. Bob was a Hampton Roads resident since 1981. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, reading, music and getting together with family.
Bob is survived by his son, Robert V. Wilson with wife, Donna of Knoxville, TN; his daughter, Deborah E. Firman with husband, Terry of Hendersonville, NC; his grandsons, Stephen and Gary Beckner; his granddaughters, Brittany Vetterick and Madison Wilson and his siblings, Mary Lee Lytle of Old Fort, NC, James E. Wilson (Eddie) of Yorktown, VA, Steven H. Wilson (Steve) and Nancy E. Edney (Beth) both of Asheville, NC, Linda W. Griffin of Hendersonville, NC and John G. Wilson of Old Fort, NC.
A private service will be held. The family requests that expressions of sympathy in his memory to please be contributed to Williamsburg Hospice House, 4445 Powhatan Pkwy, Williamsburg, VA 23188. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
