Abbie Chatfield announces she’s leaving hit radio

Abbie Chatfield has announced she’s quitting her radio show.

The former reality star turned media success story, 28, has been hosting her Hit Network show Hot Nights With Abbie Chatfield since the beginning of 2022.

Chatfield took to Instagram Thursday afternoon saying she made the call “a little last minute” following a recent holiday, with her final show to air tonight.

“I’m really happy with my decision and super proud of myself for letting this role go,” she wrote.

“I simply need to put my energy into projects that bring me joy and that energise me, rather than draining me.”

She said she was looking forward to spending more time with friends and family, as well as focusing on her host of opportunities elsewhere.

“It’s also time to give someone else a go who would enjoy and appreciate the opportunity more than myself. I have so much on, and daily radio takes up so much time. I simply wasn’t enjoying myself day to day in that environment,” she added.

“This was my decision entirely, and I’m so glad I made it.”

Chatfield added her podcast would stay within the Hit Network, and that she would be adopting the segment she started on-air, Australian Made.

“I still am planning on doing Australian Made every week, just in a slightly different way. I’m so passionate about Australian music that this was the main reason I didn’t quit earlier, so I’m glad I can take it with me,” she said.

SCA Chief Content Officer, Dave Cameron, said: “For personal reasons, Abbie Chatfield has made the decision to step away from Hot Nights, her national radio show on the Hit Network.

“We are pleased to say that Abbie will remain with SCA, and we look forward to continuing to support the ongoing growth of her extraordinarily successful podcast, It’s a Lot with Abbie Chatfield, published on LiSTNR.”

Chatfield’s career went rapidly uphill after starring on The Bachelor in 2019, with the star now a prominent force in the Australian showbiz landscape.

She hosts a successful podcast, It’s A Lot, won the 2021 season of I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!, became a judge on Masked Singer Australia and also embarked on a sellout national live show tour.

Last year, she was the host of the debut Binge reality series, FBoy Island.

And it appears her multiple opportunities have certainly paid well, with Chatfield dropping nearly $1.8 million on a Sydney apartment in May 2022.

It marked her second property purchase, after acquiring a $1.45 million Byron Bay home the previous year.

Shine Music Festival intentionally accessible

Summer music festivals bring music lovers together in a shared experience. The Shine Music Festival does that, but opens the experience to people with disabilities. It’s intentionally accessible to create inclusion for all music lovers. Festival founder, Shawn Satterfield, spoke about what she loves about the festival on First at Four.

“Definitely, the community and shared experiences it’s created. Our first year, we had someone thank us for giving her the gift of a music festival that she was able to navigate on her terms and her timing without the need of a sighted person.”

This year Shine lost some large donors at the last minute, and was in danger of having to be cancelled. But many non-profits which serve the disabled community came together to raise money to make it happen because it’s become such an important event in their community. Also several vendors gave discounts and a new venue was located again at a greatly discounted fee.

“I truly believe that when we come together as a collective whole, we’re able to just move that change needle so much faster then we are independently,” Satterfield explained.

The music starts at Shine Music Festival at 1:00 p.m. and goes until 8:00 p.m. There is a deep lineup of great acts this year. Denver band, SunSquabi is the headliner. Neal Evans Fro Down will play, which has some well known members including Felix Pastorius, Harry Waters, and Greg Harris.

“One of our missions has always been to empower venues and events to think outside of the minimalistic ADA laws and create more inclusive spaces,” Saterfield told CBS News Colorado’s Karen Leigh.

Shine Music Festival

The Festival goes to great lengths to make sure that any person can access the event and enjoy the music. Beyond wheelchair ramps, there will be menus written in braille, technology that allows those with hearing lose to feel the music, and sensory soothing spaces.

“We are bringing x-ray glasses in this year, which is live close captioning that comes across the lens,” Satterfield said.

Shine Music Festival is Saturday, August 26, 2023. The doors open at 12:00 p.m., and the music begins at 1:00 p.m. at ReelWorks Denver. Admission is free.

South Korea’s DJ Soda groped and sexually harassed

OSAKA – Popular South Korean performer DJ Soda said she was “shocked and scared” after being openly groped at the Osaka Music Circus Festival in Japan on Sunday.

Known for her blend of hard dance and hip-hop as well as her bubbly stage persona, she wrote on social media on Monday that she had “never experienced anything like this in my 10 years as a DJ”.

The 35-year-old, whose real name is Hwang So-hee, recounted the incident in English, Korean and Japanese.

“To communicate more closely with the fans, I always get closer to the fans at the end of the gig,” she wrote. “At that moment, several people suddenly touched my chest and I was helplessly sexually harassed by them.”

She added: “I’m so embarrassed and humiliated that I can’t believe this incident has happened.”

In another post, DJ Soda hit back at netizens who blamed her for wearing revealing clothing.

“No matter what clothes I wear, sexual harassment and assault cannot be justified,” she wrote.

“I have the freedom to wear what I want to wear and no one can judge people by how (they) dress. My body is mine, not someone else’s. I like to wear revealing clothes and I will continue to wear them.”

TryHard Japan, the organiser of the music festival, reacted to the incident in a statement on Tuesday.

It condemned the “criminal acts”, and said it planned to seek damages and file complaints against the perpetrators, Kyodo News reported.

“While providing maximum support to DJ Soda, who was victimised, we intend to identify the individuals responsible for this despicable crime and take legal measures, both civil and criminal,” it said, according to a translation by Kyodo.

Futureverse Formally Introduces JEN-1 AI

On the heels of a $54 million funding round, artificial intelligence and metaverse company Futureverse has officially introduced its JEN-1 text-to-music AI tool, which it says is superior to both Google’s MusicLM and Meta’s MusicGen.

Auckland-based Futureverse reached out to Digital Music News with its formal JEN-1 announcement as well as a corresponding white paper about the text-to-music generator. Said white paper describes in detail the purported technical advantages of JEN-1 and indicates that its AI music is of a “perceptually higher quality (85.7/100) compared to the current best methods (83.8/100).”

For background, Futureverse in December merged “eight metaverse companies into one collaborative ecosystem,” and higher-ups promptly released a separate white paper about their long-term vision for the overarching operation.

Among the eight companies that combined within Futureverse were AI developer Altered State Machine and Web3 payments platform Centrapay. Now equipped with 300 or so full-time employees, according to execs, the entity counts as co-founders Shara Senderoff (who also co-founded Raised In Space with Scooter Braun), CEO Aaron McDonald, CTO Marco Brondani, and chief business officer Daniel Gillespie.

Returning to the newly detailed text-to-music generator, Futureverse’s north of 5,000-word white paper on the forthcoming technology reads in part: “More importantly, human judges confirm JEN-1 generates music highly aligned with text prompts in a melodically and harmonically pleasing fashion.”

These “human judges,” the company behind JEN-1 elaborated, are “respected music industry A&Rs to be announced soon.” Moreover, Futureverse has made publicly available a number of JEN-1 instrumental samples, including alongside the brief AI-created works the underlying text prompts and outputs from competing text-to-music services for the same prompts.

“Human sensitivity to musical dissonance demands high precision in music generation,” Senderoff and McDonald said in joint remarks. “We have been working deeply in this space for the last two years. We are incredibly proud to publish a first look into our team’s significant progress in the advancement of music AI that will benefit creators and progress in the music industry.”

While the music attributed to JEN-1 appears technically solid, it goes without saying that the tool (and all other available text-to-music artificial intelligence offerings) represents the tip of the AI-music iceberg.

As the unprecedented technology has rapidly evolved to this point in 2023, so too have the AI approaches of the Big Three record labels. With firmly worded public comments and more than a few takedown notices having failed to stem the tide of soundalike AI music – authorized AI music is likewise becoming increasingly prevalent – Universal Music in May partnered with relaxation app Endel to create tracks using “ethical AI.”

Moreover, the leading label and Warner Music are reportedly in talks with Google to license their artists’ voices for an AI music-generation tool. Additionally, Warner has teed up the release of artificial intelligence projects from “big names” for later this quarter.

Clarence Avant, a major power broker in music,

One of the great connectors in the music and entertainment industries has died. The executive and businessman Clarence Avant boosted the careers of generations of musicians, entertainers, sports stars and politicians.

A family statement sent to NPR said that he had died “gently at home in Los Angeles” on Sunday at age 92. A cause of death was not shared.

Avant was a giant power broker in several fields, helping to nurture the careers of major Black artists and shaping the field for Black-owned companies. Among his many accomplishments: He signed singer-songwriter Bill Withers. He was the promoter for Michael Jackson’s first solo tour. He was the chairman of Motown Records. He nurtured producers, including Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, and Diddy — and also worked with sports heroes including Jackie Robinson, Hank Aaron, Jim Brown and Muhammad Ali.

He also became a major behind-the-scenes force in politics. He advised President George H.W. Bush — but was also a fundraiser for Presidents Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama.

Avant was born Feb. 25, 1931, in Greensboro, N.C. As a young man, he started out by managing a range of musicians, including blues singer Little Willie John, film music composer Lalo Schifrin, jazz vocalist Sarah Vaughan, and jazz organist Jimmy Smith.

Netflix — where Avant’s son-in-law, Ted Sarandos, is co-CEO — created a documentary about Avant in 2019. The film’s title carried Avant’s longtime nickname: The Black Godfather. In the documentary, former President Obama observed: “Clarence was the bridge from the time where there was no opportunity [for Black talent] to a time where where doors began to open.”

Avant was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.

Avant came back into the news after a tragedy in December 2021: His wife, Jacqueline, whom he married in 1967, was shot to death during a violent burglary at their home in Beverly Hills. In April 2022, the murderer was sentenced to 190 years in prison.

Avant’s survivors include his daughter Nicole, a former U.S. ambassador to the Bahamas and film producer; Nicole’s husband, Ted Sarandos; and son Alex Avant, who is a talent representative.
