EastEnders spoilers: Sonia given more terrible news after Dot’s death | Soaps

Can she fix this? (Picture: BBC)

The news of Dot Cotton (June Brown)’s death hit all of Walford hard in EastEnders’ episodes back in December – but nobody felt the loss of the beloved Dot more than Sonia (Natalie Cassidy).

Sonia was the one who first got the news that her adored gran had died and the preparations for the funeral fell to her to make. She had help from her friends and neighbours, but at times the grief became too much for Sonia to bear and she struggled.

As she continues to grieve the loss of Dot, Sonia is soon faced with more bad news. Though she has inherited Dot’s house, she discovers that she owes a huge amount of inheritance tax on the property – money she just doesn’t have.

She’s beside herself with worry, thinking that the only way out of the financial situation is to sell the house, which will leave her homeless.

She decides to try contacting Dot’s great-nephew Reiss (Jonny Freeman), who hasn’t been in touch since he left Albert Square in December – but he tells her he can’t help her.

With her last hope gone, Sonia faces losing her home. But then her luck apparently changes when she finds Reiss on her doorstep. They sit down together to try to find a way that Sonia can keep Dot’s house.

Can he help? Or will Dot Cotton’s house have to be sold?
