Dropkick Murphys bring energetic punk music to Allentown Fair: photos

The Dropkick Murphys performed their signature Celtic punk music on the grandstand stage Thursday night at the Great Allentown Fair.

The band has been performing their music since they formed in Massachusetts back in 1996.

Ken Casey, the band’s bassist and singer, has been the band’s longest member. Al Barr took over as lead singer in 1998 after Mike McColgan left the band.

The Dropkick Murphys is famous for their powerhouse sound that weaves in screaming bagpipes for a loud, energetic live show.

In 2004, their single “Tessie,” was the band’s first hit to go mainstream. The band’s best-known song, “I’m Shipping Up to Boston,” was released in 2005 and is their only platinum-selling single to date. Their song “Rose Tattoo,” hit No. 21 on Loudwire’s Top 66 Best of The Decade Rock songs.
