Thursday’s Music at the Park extends its last concert through the weekend

The city of Caro is hosting Encore at Atwood starting Thursday Aug. 25 and lasting through the weekend, as part of the final Music in the Park of the year.

The city decided to extend the weekly event for the entire weekend, hosting different live bands and food trucks daily.

“Since it was the last one, we wanted to have it for the entire weekend,” interim City Manager Lauren Amellal said. “We want to enjoy the last few days of summer with the community.”

Starting nightly at 6 p.m., bands and musicians will perform at the Atwood Park Bandshell.

To kick off the event on Thursday, the Cooper Creek Band, along with the Nellies Mac Shack food truck, will be in attendance.

Friday evening will host The Leftovers and Farm2You food truck. The last and final day of the three-day event will feature two bands: Sunshine String Band from 3 to 5 p.m. and Kountry Klass from 6-8 p.m. Maria’s Mexican food truck will be available for the entirety of both concerts.

“These are bands that have performed before at our weekly Music in the Park,” Amellal said. “They come from all over, including Oakland, Clarkston, Bay City and a few local performers as well. It’s a different mix of music every night.”

On Thursday, the city of Caro will be presenting John Ecken a plaque for his hard work, dedication and service at Atwood Park. Ecken has been responsible for booking the bands and performers for the weekly summer event for many decades.

“He has been great for our community and town,” Amellal said. “We’re so thankful for him and we want to show and give him his recognition.”

This year the city has had many sponsors that have helped put these events possible including the city of Caro DDA, Hornbachers Laundry, Garden Gate Bed and Breakfast, Lasting Impressions Floral shop, and the Caro Farmers Market.

“None of this would’ve been possible without them,” Amellal said.
