New outdoor dance floor at Lock 4 in downtown Akron

The dance floor is open from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. through Oct. 2.

AKRON, Ohio — Are you a dancing machine? There’s a new place for you to show off your best moves!

The city of Akron has completed the installation of a temporary outdoor dance floor at Lock 4 on South Main Street downtown, which includes Bluetooth speakers for members of the public to connect and play their favorite music.

“Once connected, they can choose a song or playlist from any music streaming platform,” city officials announced Wednesday morning. “The device will allow up to 20 minutes of connectivity before it will disconnect to allow anyone else in the vicinity to enjoy the installation.”

The dance floor is now open from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. through Oct. 2.

Created by Swedish architectural collaborative Dansbana!, the new dance floor depicts large hands waring rings and a bracelet.

City officials say the project, which is funded by a Knight Arts Challenge Akron Award, “highlights the value of dance as a tool of personal and collective transformation.”

You can see a list of events scheduled to take place at the dance floor by checking the city’s calendar HERE.
